Kaizer Chiefs' Bruce Bvuma stresses importance of Gallants clash in top-eight push

Chiefs' struggles this season continued with a goalless stalemate against Chippa United, a result that has left the Soweto giants in eighth place on the Betway Premiership table with 31 points. With just a few games left, their position in the top half of the standings is under threat.

Bvuma, however, insists the squad has moved on from the Chippa game and is fully focused on Saturday's task.

"I don't think it has played any part in our minds (the draw against Chippa). Because we know the importance of the game that we are going to play over the weekend. We know that we need points, and we know that we are not in the position that we would like to finish in at the end of the season," said the shot-stopper.

He stressed the importance of not only winning big games but also collecting points in matches against so-called smaller opponents.

"Also, we understand the importance of winning these so-called smaller games, not just the bigger ones, because those points can take us higher up the log standings."

With two high-stakes Soweto Derby clashes against Orlando Pirates on the horizon — one in the league and another in the Nedbank Cup final — Bvuma said the team remains focused on taking things one game at a time.

"So, I wouldn't say the players are solely focused on the derby because right now, every game is like a cup final for us. If we win against Marumo, we gain momentum going into the next game. We know we need to secure the maximum points available to improve our league standing."
