Patrice Motsepe excited for Kaizer Chiefs' continental return

The Soweto giants have endured 10 long years without a trophy but have the chance to lift some silverware this season as they face rivals Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.

By virtue of just being in the final, Amakhosi are expected to feature in next season's CAF Confederation Cup.

Motsepe says it's important for South African football to have a successful Chiefs, and lauded club bosses for their continued commitment to the underperforming team, who currently occupy eighth place on the Betway Premiership standings.

"South African football requires a successful Chiefs and I am proud of the work the Motaung family are doing," said Motsepe in the Citizen.

“Dr Kaizer Motaung is in a class of his own. I have said in the past that the days of success for Kaizer Chiefs are coming and I think they will be even more successful in the future.”

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are both currently in the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

"I am proud of all the teams from all over the continent," added Motsepe.

"It is so good to see two South African teams participating in the CAF (Champions League) semi-finals. Sustainable progress doesn't happen overnight. It needs consistent investment and hard work.

"I wish the best Al Ahly, Pyramids, Pirates, who are my father's club, and [CAF Confederation Cup semi-finalists] Stellenbosch. What's the other team? And Sundowns!"
