CAF issues fines for Champions League semi-final chaos
Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have both been fined by the Confederation of African Football.
Mbesuma, one of the most prolific strikers to ever wear the gold and black jersey, believes this match is a turning point for the current Amakhosi squad. He's challenged them to embrace the occasion with purpose and belief.
"A cup match is a different ball game—it's about who shows up on the day," Mbesuma told the Chiefs website.
"Sundowns have been dominating, yes, but anything can happen in a knockout match. Chiefs can use this as a chance to turn their season around."
The Zambian great emphasized the need for a strong mentality and a fearless approach.
"They must go in with a cup mindset and real determination to come out on top. I'm confident the talent is there. Now is the time to step up and show what they're capable of."
Mbesuma knows what it takes to perform under pressure. In the 2004/05 season, he bagged a record-breaking 33 goals for Chiefs before earning a move to English side Portsmouth.
He also had stints with rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, as well as Golden Arrows, Highlands Park, and University of Pretoria—making him one of the few players to have played for all three giants in South African football.
Now, he hopes his words can inspire the current generation.
"This is the kind of match where heroes are made. They must give it everything."
