Soweto derby tickets sold out ahead of blockbuster showdown
Kaizer Chiefs have announced that tickets for their highly anticipated Betway Premiership clash against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates have officially sold out.
Once seen as a rising star during a difficult period for Chiefs, Bvuma was handed the No. 1 jersey this season by head coach Nasreddine Nabi and goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi. However, with 17 goals conceded in 16 Premiership appearances, his performances have left much to be desired.
Spencer, who once played in front of Chiefs greats like Brian Baloyi and Itumeleng Khune, believes Bvuma needs to bring more leadership and authority to his role.
"It's not easy filling the void left by Brian and Khune - they were quality players and leaders," Spencer was quoted by IOL.
"But Bvuma needs to step up. Leadership starts at the back, and we need him to command his box and guide the defenders."
Bvuma had long been seen as Khune's natural successor, having learned under the veteran for several seasons. His elevation to first choice came with high expectations, but so far, he's struggled to consistently make the difference in games.
While he's produced some highlight-reel saves, Bvuma's inconsistency has raised concerns among fans and pundits alike.
"I haven't spoken to him personally," Spencer added, "but hopefully next season, we'll see a more confident and commanding presence from him."
As Chiefs look to restore their former glory, all eyes will be on Bvuma to step up and prove he can be the reliable last line of defence the club needs in their pursuit for strong finish in the league and lifting the Nedbank Cup.
