Tyrique George fires up Chelsea's Warsaw blitz as Blues crush Legia

The Blues, unbeaten in the competition, dominated at the Marshall Jozef Pilsudski Stadium, leaving Legia with a huge task in the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

The breakthrough came early in the second half when George tapped in a rebound after Reece James' shot was parried by Legia goalkeeper Kacper Tobiasz.

Noni Madueke added a brace, first stroking home a precise finish and later sweeping in a low cross from Jadon Sancho, as Chelsea turned a tight first half into a second-half rout.

Manager Enzo Maresca praised George and the club's academy. "We're thrilled for Tyrique," he said. "He took responsibility and delivered. Josh Acheampong also impressed me, he played multiple roles brilliantly and could be a top player for this club."

The first half saw Legia, with five clean sheets in the tournament, frustrate Chelsea early, outshooting them before the half-hour mark. But the Blues found their rhythm, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Christopher Nkunku going close.

Nkunku's penalty miss after a foul on Dewsbury-Hall drew Maresca's sympathy. "Christoph is low on confidence," he said. "But he's working hard, and the rewards will come."

Dewsbury-Hall troubled Legia repeatedly, while James and Sancho stretched their defence.

Maresca hailed James' display, with Chelsea's official X account posting: "Reece is back to his best—pure quality." Legia's late effort through Patryk Kun was easily handled by Filip Jörgensen, but they now face a near-impossible challenge in London.

Chelsea's X account celebrated George's strike, posting: "One of our own! Tyrique opens his account in style."

Maresca, however, urged caution. "It's only half done," he said. "We must finish the job at home." With their perfect record intact, Chelsea look formidable, while Legia's European hopes are fading fast.
