Wasted chances killing Kaizer Chiefs, says coach Nasreddine Nabi
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi says poor finishing cost his team once again as they drew 1-1 with TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership on Sunday.
Currently sitting third on the Betway Premiership table with 36 points - just a point ahead of fourth-placed Stellenbosch - the Rockets have turned their fortunes around under Beganovic's stewardship. It's a remarkable rise for a side that was languishing near the relegation zone earlier in the season.
Beganovic, who began the campaign as assistant to former head coach Sead Ramovic, stepped up following Ramovic's resignation and has since injected a renewed sense of belief and structure into the team.
"When I signed my contract on November 14th, I said this club doesn't deserve to be in the bottom. Now we are fighting for the top three. That's our target," Beganovic told IOL.
Their gritty 1-1 comeback draw against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday further highlighted the team's fighting spirit. Despite trailing, Galaxy clawed their way back into the game and nearly snatched all three points in Polokwane.
"Yes, one point is better than none, but we prepared to win. We played well and did everything to secure the three points," said Beganovic.
"Some tactics from our opponents slowed the game down, but we maintained our focus."
The Bosnian-born coach has instilled a tactical discipline and resilience that has seen the Rockets collect points consistently in recent weeks - and suddenly, a place in next season's CAF competitions no longer seems like a pipe dream.
With a handful of games left to play, Galaxy's challenge now is maintaining momentum in a tightly contested race for continental qualification. But if their recent form is anything to go by, Beganovic's side could very well finish the fairytale season among the league's elite.
