Report: Mohamed Salah set to strike new Liverpool deal

The news comes as Arne Slot's team continue their relentless march towards the Premier League title, underlined by a gritty 1-0 victory over rivals Everton in the Merseyside Derby on Wednesday night.

The Reds have re-established a commanding 12-point lead over Arsenal at the top of the table, and only a monumental collapse would see their grip on the crown slip this season.

Despite recent setbacks, a Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain and a League Cup final defeat to Newcastle before the international break, Liverpool are thriving in the league under Slot's guidance.

However, off the pitch, the focus has been on the futures of three key players: Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk, whose contracts are all ticking down.

While Alexander-Arnold appears destined for a free transfer to Real Madrid in the summer, hope remains for Salah and Van Dijk. Earlier this week, rumours swirled that Saudi giants Al-Hilal were confident of luring Salah to the Middle East, but the tide now seems to have turned.

Speculation hit fever pitch when an image surfaced of Salah posing at Liverpool's Albert Docks in club gear. Fans dared to dream it signalled a breakthrough, but The Athletic quickly clarified the situation. "The picture was completely unrelated to his contract situation," they reported.

"It was taken on Monday during a player appearance for one of Liverpool's commercial partners. Discussions over a contract extension are ongoing, with hope a suitable compromise can be reached."

Now, Foot Mercato have delivered the update Reds supporters have been craving. "Today, we can confirm that Mohamed Salah will indeed continue his adventure on the banks of the Mersey," the outlet stated.

"Salah is very close to signing a two-year contract, which would keep him with the Reds for 10 years. No details on salary have been released, but the Egyptian is on the verge of getting what he has wanted for several months."

The Daily Mail had previously hinted at progress in talks between Liverpool and Salah's agent, and this latest development suggests a deal is imminent.

For Liverpool, securing Salah, a relentless goal machine and talisman, would be a massive coup. With the Premier League in their sights and Slot's project taking shape, the Egyptian King looks set to reign at Anfield for years to come.
