Report: Marcus Rashford eyes Barcelona move as Aston Villa loan sparks revival

The England international's future remains a hot topic among football fans as his career takes a dramatic turn.

Rashford's departure from Old Trafford came after a fallout with Manchester United's head coach, Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese manager, who joined the Red Devils in late 2024, sidelined Rashford following a 2-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen on December 12, 2024.

Amorim had hinted at concerns over Rashford's attitude and professionalism, effectively freezing him out of the squad. By January, Rashford secured a loan move to Aston Villa, with a reported 40 million pounds option for a permanent transfer.

At Villa Park, Rashford has rediscovered his spark under manager Unai Emery. His standout performance in a thrilling 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on April 15, showcased his talent, even though Villa fell short, losing 5-4 on aggregate. Rashford's three goals and five assists in 15 appearances have reignited debates about his next move.

Emery praised Rashford's impact but remained cautious about a permanent deal. "He played a fantastic match and is feeling better," Emery said after the PSG clash. "We are happy if he is happy, but it depends on the circumstances in the coming weeks."

However, reports from Spanish outlet Sport suggest Rashford has his heart set on Barcelona. The 27-year-old reportedly "wants to join" the La Liga giants "no matter what," despite Villa's option to buy him for 40 million pounds. Sources claim Rashford's desire for a Camp Nou move stems from a collapsed loan deal in January, when Barcelona focused on renewing existing contracts.

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham believes Rashford's days at Old Trafford are over. "I don't think there's a way back for Marcus Rashford at United," Sheringham said.

"His body language at Villa shows he's happier away from Manchester. He's trying to enjoy his football and fits better with Villa's players."

Barcelona see Rashford as a versatile forward who could slot into Hansi Flick's system, either as a centre-forward or wide attacker.

A reported 34 million pounds offer is in the works, which could be a bargain for a player of Rashford's pedigree. However, Villa's strong Premier League campaign and Rashford's chemistry with the squad might complicate his dream move.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Rashford's form at Villa Park will be crucial. Whether he lands in Catalonia or stays in the Premier League, his next step promises to be a defining moment in his career.
