Mikel Arteta optimistic on Kai Havertz recovery in potential Champions League final boost

Havertz was initially ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury sustained during a warm-weather training camp in Dubai in February. However, Arteta has confirmed that the 24-year-old's recovery is progressing ahead of schedule.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal's semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain, Arteta downplayed suggestions that Havertz might be ready in time for the two-legged clash but did not rule out a return for the final, scheduled for May 31 in Munich.

"For the semi-finals? I think that is too close," Arteta stated. "But if I had to bet on him being available earlier than expected, I would say, yes. The way he works - he's in the gym every day, pushing everyone - it's becoming increasingly difficult to hold him back."

Havertz's absence, alongside that of fellow forward Gabriel Jesus, has not derailed Arsenal's European ambitions. The Gunners progressed to their first Champions League semi-final since 2009 with a resounding 5-1 aggregate victory over Real Madrid.

While their European form has provided a major boost, Arsenal's Premier League campaign appears to be drawing to a less dramatic conclusion. The club is poised to finish as runners-up for a third consecutive season, trailing league leaders Liverpool by 13 points with just six matches remaining.

Liverpool could mathematically secure the title as early as Sunday, depending on the outcomes of their fixture against Leicester City and Arsenal's match against relegation-threatened Ipswich Town.

Arteta remains determined to prevent that scenario, emphasizing the need to maintain focus and momentum in the league, especially with Champions League qualification for next season not yet mathematically secured.

"We'll make sure that we win the game and that doesn't happen," Arteta said, referring to the possibility of Liverpool clinching the title this weekend. "We need to step up and start winning games."
