Stuttgart make semi-finals of DFB-Pokal with win over Augsburg
VfB Stuttgart beat FC Augsburg 1-0 at home to reach the semi-finals of the DFB Cup thanks to striker Deniz Undav's winner.
At 38, Neuer is preparing for his 15th campaign with the Bavarians, having amassed an impressive collection of 30 trophies, including two historic trebles in 2013 and 2020.
Neuer, who celebrated his 750th club match in a recent nail-biter against Holstein Kiel, remains a pivotal figure in Bayern's squad. "I'm still hungry and am looking forward to another year at this special club," Neuer said in an official club interview.
His commitment to the sport is undiminished as he aims to add more silverware to his trophy cabinet.
The club has bolstered its goalkeeping options with the signing of 21-year-old Jonas Urbig last week, while Alexander Nubel, currently on loan at Stuttgart, is contracted with Bayern until 2029.
Despite this, Neuer's role is seen as irreplaceable, with sporting director Christoph Freund stating, "Manuel Neuer has been setting the bar for goalkeeping for over a decade. We're delighted that we can chase our goals next season with him as well."
However, Neuer's season hasn't been without hiccups. His red card against Bayer Leverkusen led to Bayern's exit from the DFB-Pokal, although he managed to keep a clean sheet in 50% of his league appearances. Board member Max Eberl praised Neuer, calling him "the best goalkeeper of his generation."
In other transfer news, Bayern Munich have decided to terminate Gabriel Vidovic's loan at Mainz 05. The 21-year-old forward managed only 48 minutes across two games since joining Mainz last summer.
Christoph Freund commented, "Gabriel Vidovic is a very talented forward who we hold high hopes for at Bayern. Unfortunately, he didn't get the playing time we'd hoped for... so we've agreed together with the player to terminate the loan early."
Additionally, young striker Mathys Tel has moved to Tottenham Hotspur on a loan deal that includes an option to buy for 55 million euros plus 5 million euros in add-ons.
Max Eberl reflected on the transfer, saying, "Mathys Tel came to Bayern as a very young player and has continued to develop at the highest level here. He hasn't got the playing time he'd wished of late, so came to us with the desire to change something."
This series of moves and contract extensions signal Bayern Munich's strategic planning for the future, balancing experience with youth in their squad dynamics.
