Lucky Lekgwathi: Jose Riveiro's calmness helped youngsters excel at Orlando Pirates

Lekgwathi, who enjoyed a trophy-laden career with the Buccaneers, praised Riveiro for the work he's done at the club, especially his bold decision to integrate young players into the senior squad.

"It's sad to lose a coach like Riveiro after all the wonderful work he's done. What really stood out was how he trusted young players," Lekgwathi told FARPost.

Under Riveiro's guidance, emerging talents like Relebohile Mofokeng, Mohau Nkota, Thabiso Sesane (currently injured), and the most recent breakout, Mbekile Mbokazi, have flourished.

"I was so impressed that he gave youngsters a chance - he was taking a gamble. Most teams don't do that," said Lekgwathi.

He added that Riveiro's calm and composed personality made a big difference in how young players responded to his coaching.

"You know youngsters - when the coach is harsh, they get scared. But when you look at Riveiro, he's humble and calm. That's why when those boys are given a chance, they perform."

Riveiro, who joined Pirates in 2022, is expected to leave when his contract expires at the end of the current season.
