Reports from Sky Germany had suggested the 20-year-old winger was ready to call time on his Dortmund adventure at the end of the season, sparking speculation among fans and pundits alike. But the club's board member for sport, Lars Ricken, has stepped in to set the record straight.
Speaking to DAZN before Dortmund's 4-0 Champions League defeat to FC Barcelona on Wednesday, Ricken was unequivocal. "I can say this very clearly: it's not true," he said, putting an end to the swirling transfer chatter.
He went on to underline Gittens' deep connection with the club, adding, "He has been with us since his youth days. There is a lot of trust between us. He identifies 100 percent with BVB."
Gittens, who joined Dortmund from Manchester City's academy in 2020, has been a rising force for the Black and Yellows. After a spell of four consecutive substitute appearances, he reclaimed his spot in the starting XI for the Barcelona clash.
Despite the heavy loss, his presence on the pitch showed the faith Dortmund continue to have in him. This season alone, he has notched seven goals and three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions, proving his worth as a key attacking weapon.
The rumour mill had linked Gittens with a potential summer move, with Bayern Munich and several Premier League clubs reportedly in the mix.
Posts on X earlier this week fuelled the fire, with some suggesting a transfer fee could drop from an initial 100 million euros to a more affordable 70-80 million euros range. Yet Ricken's comments make it clear Dortmund are not entertaining any offers just yet.
For now, Gittens remains a cornerstone of Dortmund's plans under head coach Niko Kovac. The club, currently struggling in 10th place in the Bundesliga, will need their young Englishman firing on all cylinders if they are to turn their season around.
Fans will hope this latest statement from the board signals a renewed commitment to building around their homegrown talent rather than cashing in.
