Orlando Pirates prepare for tough CAF Champions League clash against Pyramids
Orlando Pirates are set to host Pyramids FC in the first leg of the CAF Champions League semi-final at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
Ahly and Sundowns are set to lock horns in one of the most anticipated clashes in African club football. The South Africans are eyeing their second CAF Champions League title, while Al Ahly are chasing a record-extending 13th crown.
Ibrahim pointed to Sundowns' journey to the semi-finals—particularly their dominant quarter-final performance against Tunisia's Esperance—as a clear indication of how competitive the "Brazilians" have become.
"Mamelodi Sundowns are a strong team with many experienced players. They've shown throughout this CAF Champions League campaign that they can win anywhere, so we must take them seriously," Mostafa told Flashscore.
"In their last match against Esperance, they completely dominated the game, showcasing their strength and resilience. Securing an away draw against such a strong Tunisian side will undoubtedly boost their morale as they prepare to face us."
While Ibrahim anticipates a difficult tie, he believes Al Ahly have the upper hand by playing the first leg away from home.
"The match will be tough because a lot is at stake, but I believe we have a team capable of getting the job done. Playing away in the first leg gives us a slight advantage. Football today is unpredictable, and that's why we must be at our best," he added.
The rivalry between Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns has become one of the defining storylines of the CAF Champions League in recent years, with the South African side having the edge lately.
In their last four encounters in the competition, Sundowns have recorded three victories, with the other ending in a draw.
Sundowns will host Al Ahly in the first leg of the semi-finals on 18 April.
