CAF Champions League: Disciplined Sundowns snatch first-leg victory against Esperance

Peter Shalulile netted the only goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half, edging closer to becoming the all-time top scorer in the Premier Soccer League.

His goal proved decisive in a match where Sundowns controlled possession, dictated play, and moved the ball swiftly to keep their Tunisian opponents on the back foot.

Esperance, who defeated Sundowns by the same scoreline in both legs of last season's semi-final before falling to Al Ahly in the final, struggled to create meaningful chances.

Their attacking trio of Elias Mokwana, Yann Sasse, and Youcef Belaili found themselves chasing the ball more than threatening the Sundowns defence.

Despite the home side's dominance, the match remained tense, with Esperance frustrating Sundowns and their supporters.

With a slender lead secured, Masandawana will travel to Tunisia for the second leg next week, knowing that a solid defensive display could see them progress to the semi-finals and take revenge for last season's heartbreak.
