Bayern Munich brace for Dortmund duel amid injury woes

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Kompany revealed that midfielders Aleksandar Pavlovic and Kingsley Coman are making strides in their recovery but are unlikely to feature in the clash at the Allianz Arena.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer remains sidelined, and his chances of returning for Bayern's crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg against Inter Milan next Wednesday hang in the balance.

"Aleks Pavlovic and Kingsley Coman are back in training today for some tests, but I don't expect any changes to the squad for Dortmund," Kompany said. "As for Manuel Neuer and the Inter match, it's too early to say."

Bayern have been plagued by injuries this season, with stars like Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Dayot Upamecano also ruled out for the foreseeable future.

Despite these setbacks, Kompany remains focused on the task at hand, emphasizing the enduring significance of Der Klassiker.

"The Dortmund game hasn't lost its spark," he said. "Growing up, I always saw Bayern against Dortmund as a massive fixture, right up there with games against Bremen or Leverkusen.

"These matches carry a special heat, and we need to channel that energy into our performance tomorrow."

While Borussia Dortmund are languishing in eighth place and out of the title race, Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga by six points, know better than to underestimate their old foes. Kompany's side are under pressure to maintain their domestic dominance while keeping one eye on their European ambitions.

Recent updates from Bayern's official channels confirm the club are taking a cautious approach with their injured players. A post on X from the club's account echoed Kompany's comments, noting that Pavlovic and Coman are being closely monitored but aren't expected to return against Dortmund. Neuer's status, meanwhile, remains a "day-by-day" situation, with the medical team prioritizing his long-term fitness.

For Bayern fans, the absence of key names only heightens the anticipation for a match that always delivers drama. Kompany's resolve will be tested as his depleted squad aim to assert their authority in one of football's fiercest rivalries.
