Report: Bok bolter Kurt-Lee Arendse keen to stay in Japan

Arendse is currently contracted to the Pretoria outfit until 2026 but the back three star has been plying his trade in Japan on a sabbatical the South African side granted.

According to Rapport, the Springboks star has taken a liking to his time with Mitsubishi Sagamihara DynaBoars in Japan Rugby League One.

That outlet states that the South African side are in ‘serious talks' with Arendse's camp over the 28-year-old's future and that he could end his Bulls stint early.

It is not guaranteed that he will go down that route, however, with the Bok open to extending his stay should those negotiations not be productive.

Arendse began the season with the Bulls but moved to Japan following the Autumn Nations Series and has spent the past four months in Asia.

He has touched down seven times during that stint, impressing for his new club having adapted nicely to the lifestyle.

The Springboks speedster is also enjoying the fiscal benefits the switch has brought, as well as the lighter workload.

With the Japanese domestic season only running from December to May, it reduces the stress on the players' bodies and, as a result, has become a popular destination for some of South Africa's best.

He has joined the likes of Cheslin Kolbe, Damian de Allende, Pieter-Steph du Toit and Malcolm Marx in the country and could make it a permanent switch if negotiations with the Bulls go well.

October's match against Benetton could, therefore, be the last time he turns out for the Pretoria outfit, with Arendse unlikely to feature for them for the rest of the season.

A source has told Rapport that his next games in South Africa will be the Springboks' mid-year internationals, meaning that he will not be available for the Bulls' United Rugby Championship run-in.

The South African team's focus is now solely on league matters after they exited the Challenge Cup at the quarter-final stage following a 34-28 defeat to Edinburgh.

Jake White's men are still well-placed in the URC with them in third position, just four points behind Glasgow Warriors in second.

They have won 10 of their 14 league matches so far and finish the regular season with games against Munster, Glasgow, Cardiff and Dragons.
