According to Soccernet.ng, the Eastern Cape-based club has set its sights on Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) shot-stopper Serge Obassa of Remo Stars as the ideal successor to Nwabali.
Obassa comes highly rated, having kept 12 clean sheets in 23 NPFL matches, making him one of the top-performing goalkeepers in Nigeria's top flight this season.
Nwabali's future has been uncertain since last year, following his rise in prominence while playing for the Nigerian national team. The 29-year-old was a standout performer at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), playing a crucial role in helping the Super Eagles reach the final.
His impressive displays have sparked interest from various clubs. In 2023, Nwabali was linked with local giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, as well as Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq. However, a potential move failed to materialize, keeping him at the Chilli Boys.
Speculation around his future has not died down. Just last week, reports indicated that Nwabali is set to leave Chippa United at the end of the current season in May. However, his next destination remains unknown.
